Senior / Principal Consultant - Contaminated Land

Location: Western Australia (Perth or Regional), Home Based

About the Role: We are currently seeking two (2) Senior or Principal level Environmental Scientist, Contaminated Land to join and/or help manage our WA team. Depending on your career aspirations you will provide technical oversight and practical solutions to clients with environmental management challenges. If you are more of a strategic thinker with a great network and want to grow a team, we are also seeking an individual with management aspirations.

Both roles will involve forming strategic and practical solutions to clients with environmental management challenges and will be responsible for working in and building the contaminated land services line. This will include contributing to the overall strategic goals of the WA team to help us deliver a growing portfolio of projects.

  • A degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering.
  • 8+ years’ experience in contaminated land and remediation projects.
  • Strong communication, report writing, and project management skills.
  • A focus on safety and environmental responsibility.
  • Knowledge of contaminated land legislation.

The successful candidate will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science/Engineering, Hydrogeology or Geology
  • Experience in contaminated land with exposure to a wide range of environmental and engineering situations
  • Demonstrated experience in site supervision, managing site investigations and various sampling methods including soil and groundwater
  • Knowledge of environmental drawing techniques, field work assignment methodologies and processes
  • Knowledge of NEPM as well as health & safety best practice principles
  • Strong knowledge of the contaminated land provisions within WA planning and environmental legislation
  • Well-developed report writing skills
  • Strong business acumen to manage projects commercially and to create meaningful relationships with clients
  • Demonstrated experience in use of relevant software
  • Valid/current driver’s license and the ability to travel to sites for field work
  • The candidate must have a great eye for detail, a sense of practicality in regard to legislative and technical interpretation, and the ability to find pragmatic solutions.
  • Candidate should be comfortable with occasional travel for field-based work.

General responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking preliminary and detailed contaminated land assessments, preparing site management plans and remediation action plans
  • Conducting investigations including soil, vapour, surface water, wastewater and groundwater assessments
  • Preparation and negotiation of bids and fee proposals
  • Initiate, plan, lead and execute complex contaminated land/waste projects
  • Providing mentoring and technical oversight to the contaminated land/waste team
  • Engaging with clients and other disciplinary teams to determine innovative solutions to complex environmental problems
  • Provision of commercial oversight to projects to ensure favourable financial results.
