Job Overview

The Project GIS Analyst is responsible for providing GIS and database support across multiple service lines including Remediation, Sediment and Risk Assessment, Potentially Responsible Parties (PRP), and Business Services. The type of support needed by the Project GIS Analyst will vary based on project needs but will typically include map production, spatial analysis, data QA/QC, report generation, data acquisition, web map creation, SQL query development, and process automation. The Project GIS Analyst is expected to use both their cartographic and data management skills to ensure standards and accuracy are met for each project.

Responsibilities and Traits

GIS Support:

  • Producing high quality maps and figures for use in reports and presentations.
  • Developing user-friendly web applications.
  • Aiding projects by accurately utilizing spatial analysis.
  • Creating scripts to assist in task automation and the improvement of internal processes.
  • Investigating and procuring spatial data from publicly available sources.

Data Support:

  • Obtaining, cleaning, reviewing, synthesizing, and visualizing environmental data in an organized and concise manner.
  • Running, modifying, and developing reports to ensure data quality and accuracy.
  • Developing and documenting reproducible scripts and tools to improve data cleaning and analysis processes.

General Responsibilities and Key Traits:

  • Providing level of effort estimates (estimated time to completion) for requested tasks.
  • Coordinating with internal and external clients to provide data management and spatial solutions.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities, with ability to self-manage priorities, deadlines, and budgets.
  • Capable of working both independently and in a team environment.
  • Self-directed learner with critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Curiosity and an affinity for solving problems.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Engage in independent learning via webinars, conferences, peer-reviewed publications, internal knowledge shares, strategic growth project tasks, etc.

Specific Experience and Skills

Required:

  • 3+ years of professional experience in GIS.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in data management.
  • An intermediate understanding and experience in the following:
  • ESRI ArcGIS Software Suite
  • SQL (Microsoft SQL Server)
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Understanding and experience in one of the following:
  • R or R Shiny
  • Python
  • Experience working with environmental chemistry data.
  • Knowledge and execution of cartographic design principles.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and data quality.
  • Demonstrated understanding of relational database concepts and principles.
  • Ability to think strategically and conceptually about environmental data and develop solutions to support project objectives.
  • Willingness to learn and gain technical expertise by working on multiple projects and with experts in technical areas of practice.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to communicate proactively, efficiently, and directly with team members.

Highly ranked candidates will have one or more of the following skills or attributes:

  • Experience developing electronic forms for field data collection using applications like Fulcrum.
  • Proficiency with ESRI’s ArcGIS Experience Builder.
  • Familiarity with EarthSoft’s EQuIS Data Management System.
  • Experience querying data using Microsoft Access.
  • Additional coding language experience (JavaScript, HTML, etc.)
  • Experience with a task management system (Jira).

Education and Licenses

· Bachelor’s degree or certificate in Geography, GIS, Database Management, or closely related field of study.
