The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Ecological Risk Assessor to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will not only have a strong background in ecological risk assessment but will also possess exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a team of talented professionals, cultivating client relationships, and providing mentorship to junior staff members.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Ecological Risk Assessment:

  • Lead the design and implementation of site-specific ecological risk assessments conducted as part of remedial investigations, particularly contaminated sediment investigations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements under CERCLA, RCRA, or state programs.
  • Conduct and oversee data analyses, including deterministic and probabilistic wildlife dietary modeling, ecotoxicity data review interpretation, and bioavailability assessments, and prepare screening-level and baseline ecological risk assessment reports.
  • Support risk-based remedial decision-making based on ecological risk assessment findings to derive risk-based remedial goals and assess the protectiveness of remedial alternatives.
  • Advocate for the technical findings and conclusions of ecological risk assessments and negotiate with state and federal regulators to select risk-based remedial goals and remedial alternatives.
  • Design and implement long-term monitoring programs to evaluate remedy protectiveness.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements, and emerging issues related to ecological risk assessment. Participate in technical conferences or work groups to advance novel approaches and the practice of ecological risk assessment.

Client Management:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients by understanding their needs and delivering high-quality, tailored solutions.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing concerns, providing updates, and ensuring overall client satisfaction.

Team Management:

  • Supervise and mentor a team of ecological risk assessment professionals, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented work environment.
  • Provide guidance on technical and project-related matters, ensuring the team meets or exceeds project goals.

Project Oversight:

  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and successful completion within budget constraints.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate ecological risk assessments into broader environmental impact assessments and natural resource damage assessments (NRDA).

Quality Assurance:

  • Implement and uphold rigorous quality assurance processes to maintain the highest standards in ecological risk assessment methodologies and reporting.

Business Development:

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities by collaborating with the business development team.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals, presentations, and other materials for client meetings.

Qualifications/Education

  • Master's or Ph.D. in biology, chemistry, ecology, environmental science, toxicology, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in ecological risk assessment, with a strong track record of successful project outcomes and management.
  • Proven leadership and management skills, with experience in mentoring and developing staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks and environmental laws.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
